As I mentioned in the email to you, there isnt anything blocking you from connecting a 40GbE port on the SX1012 to 4x10GbE on the Juniper switch. Atleast, we dont block the link. The remote side capability is a more appropriate question for Juniper.
We test our products to inter-operate with all major ethernet vendors and are yet to find any issues with interoperability. We have in the past been able to bring up a link between Juniper switches and ours.
We have the capability to convert a 40GbE port to 10GbE with a QSA module. We can also convert this port into a Rj-45 based 1GbE port or a base-SX 1GbE port. We cannot however connect to a 10GbE RJ-45 port.
