Hello community,
i'm a total IB newbie.
Situation:
Have installed a Rocks 6.2 master node, which has attached a MELLANOX ConnectX®-3 QDR. Switch is a IS5022, thus no subnet manager.
As far as i read and see, Rocks 6.2 (via roll hpc) ships with drivers and a subnet manager, installing it (of sorts?), and the hca is accessible.
According to release notes, as of Rocks 5.5 "Subnet manager runs by default on frontend".
Earlier releases obviously required a dedicated roll to get installed in order to acquire OFED.
But still i had to start the service opensm manually, which then launches without error message. It all "feels" like some crucial components (of OFED) are missing?
In brief:
- Do i need to install OFED on Rocks 6.2?
- Should i then prefer the MELLANOX distribution?
- Will added packages interfer with what already is installed by Rocks?
- Which checks tell me the state of the system, whats missing or requires config in terms of ib?
If you'd give me a quickstart, what's required & bestpractice, i'd highly appreciate it.
If you prefer to redirect me to any resource, where i could start to do the "RTFM" thing, i'd be glad as well.
Thanks inadvance!
